Biomechanical Laboratory (MotionLab)

The interdisciplinary research areas still have various obstacles to overcome. ZiMT provides assistance to researchers with the application of local, statewide, nationwide and European funding. In addition, the Central Institute develops funding structures to support interdisciplinary projects and distributes resources among the individual departments and research facilities according to their core competences.

The Central Institute advances the cooperation among the Medical Engineering departments and institutions, and intensifies and coordinates the processes where needed. ZiMT also gives special attention to a frequently underrated resource: student works and projects can often give the significant impulse and form the initial basis for interdisciplinary projects and research proposals. The coordination of student works, the thematic focusing as well as the support towards publication or forming start-ups are elementary tasks within ZiMT´s daily operations.

The specific connection to the Medical Valley EMN e.V. allows the involvement of industrial partners at an early stage for projects with economic marketing prospects. Furthermore, Medical Valley EMN e.V. is an important partner for project proposals with necessary industry participation (Bavarian Research Foundation, Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), EIT Health etc.).

Our numerous departments at FAU, especially at the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine and Sciences as well as at the School of Business and Economics, tackle research issues concerning medical engineering, inter alia:

  • Medical Imaging and Processing (MR, CT, PET, SPECT, US, OCT)
  • Molecular and Translational Medicine
  • Computational Medicine
  • Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics
  • Medical Physics and Technology
  • Medical Biotechnology and Biomaterials
  • Medical Process and Health Management

For requests concerning networks and research funding of Medical Engineering topics, ZiMT will gladly provide direct contacts to key players.
